Gratitude

Gratitude is uncomplaining,
Never counting cost of loving,
Never asking or requiring
More than to acknowledge blessing.

It is in the wild flower's beauty,
In the harmony of bird-song;
In the moving of the waters,
In the shelter of the mountain.

It is in the children's laughter,
In the mother's prayer at even;
In a man's consideration,
In the loving of one's neighbor.

Words alone can ne'er express it—
This, the essence of all giving.
Gratitude is healing, praying,
Fitting us for Christlike living.
