I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings...
I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings which have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. For four years I was a sufferer from catarrh, bronchitis, and asthma. I had the attention of as many as fifteen physicians in various parts of the United States, and had operations performed on my nose; but all to no avail.
At last our family physician declared my case to be chronic and said I could not live in Chicago, which was my home, with any degree of comfort, and advised my husband to send me to a warm climate. As soon as I was able to go I went to San Antonio, Texas. After about a month's stay the old difficulties came back, and I urged my husband to let me return home. I remained in Texas for three months and a half, and returned home in a very wretched and unhappy state of mind, suffering great agony. The medicine which had seemed to help now failed me, and we knew not which way to turn. But, as the saying is, "man's extremity is God's opportunity." A niece spoke of a friend who had been healed in Christian Science after the doctors had declared that one of her lungs was gone. Knowing the excellent character of this young lady, and feeling that what she told me would be nothing but the truth, I asked her to call to see me; which she did. I had always been skeptical as to Christian Science, scoffing at what I thought it to be. Nevertheless, after my niece's friend had called and briefly told me of her healing, and upon my husband's query, "Why don't you try it?" I immediately replied, "I will," and decided that come what might I would stick to Christian Science.
A loving practitioner called the next day to see me, and upon my remark that I would never give up my religion she quietly answered, "We do not ask you to give up anything that is good." I shall never forget the deep impression those words made upon me. For two weeks after taking up the study of Christian Science I suffered continually; but I stood firm for the truth, and in six weeks was completely healed. I might also add that I had the so-called law of heredity to meet, as my father, brother, and other relatives had suffered from the same trouble and passed on indirectly from it. I am most grateful for this wonderful demonstration of God's allness and power and for the knowledge of the unreality of disease.
