Soul
Christian Science teaches that Soul is synonymous with God; and it is thus that Christian Scientists strive to understand the term. With this concept we at once begin to grasp something of the immateriality of Soul. This is an important step; and from it we go on to learn that man's real self is the expression of Soul, sinless and incorporeal. Why incorporeal? Because God, Soul, is infinite, it is impossible for Soul to enter a finite form or partake thereof. To put it a little differently, the fact of the infinite nature of Soul and that Soul is Spirit, God, precludes the possibility that Soul can ever be subject to material limitations.
A clarified view of man's true nature is gained when we begin to understand that Soul and a material body is an impossible combination. There is no Soul in matter, because there is no Life in matter. The real man reflects Soul or God. This spiritual reflection cannot in the smallest degree be in, or belong to, the flesh.
Christ Jesus said, "Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul." Mortals may experience what is called death; but Soul, which is Life, knows no death. Jesus pointed out the temporal nature of all material things, as compared with the permanent spiritual nature and grandeur of Soul.
