[Written for the Sentinel]

The Promise

They must have felt, who saw him first in Nazareth,
The power of Life that waits to triumph over death.

And when he spoke and healed the sick in Galilee,
Again was proved the truth which was and is to be.

They must have known, who saw his shadow at the door,
That love had come, the love they had not found before.

Surely Judea's sands cried out a message sweet,
And blessed the gentle imprint of the Saviour's feet!

Even in solemn Calvary's relentless hour
He knew, he proved, that Life is omnipresent power.

Where two or three together in Christ's name are met,
"Lo, I am with you alway." Let us not forget!
