[Written for the Sentinel]

Greater Love

When the silver bells are pealing,
Softly o'er my spirit stealing,
Breaks a cadence sweet, compelling,
Every dream of earth dispelling:
'Tis the Christ-love born anew!

Hush! A strain so soft, appealing,
Tenderly God's love revealing;
Greater love from all forth-calling,
Thus the wrongs of earth forestalling—
This the Christ-love born anew!
