South China Morning Post

Kindly permit me to refer to the review of a book entitled "The New Healing," which appeared in your "Bookshelf" columns yesterday.

Towards the end of his comments your contributor says, in so many words, that the General Medical Council insists that the practitioner of osteopathy, Christian Science, et cetera, should undergo a course of training and pass tests, as done by registered medical practitioners. This almost amounts to saying that the Medical Council takes the attitude that their theories should be made the basis or background of all healing methods. That there are many objections to this position is shown by the numerous systems of healing which completely eschew materia medica in their practice.

Kindly allow me to say that Christian Science practitioners do not use any kind of physical manipulation as a healing agency. May I say for the benefit of your readers that Christian Science, as discovered and founded by Mary Baker Eddy, is a purely spiritual method of healing, based on the teachings of the Holy Bible, and particularly on the words and works of Christ Jesus.
