I am very grateful for Christian Science and for its gracious, gentle influence in my life. When I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Bible, which I had read and studied all my life, was indeed illumined, proving that the "key" to the Scriptures had been given to me. As the divine understanding poured into my consciousness I rejoiced as never before. Indeed, I learned for the first time the meaning of joy. Since the day of that first great enlightenment the weakness, nervousness, and frequent illnesses which had before oppressed me have vanished like vapor, and I have never returned to these conditions. For over twenty years I have not lost one day from my daily duties through illness.
The old trouble of tonsillitis tried to return, but instead of my submitting to it, as formerly, and spending weeks of pain in bed, it was conquered without loss of time from work. The healing was instantaneous, and came while I was reading Science and Health (p. 567). When I came to the words, "To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death," my consciousness was suddenly illumined with a sense of infinite Love. In that instant I was healed. Before this healing and at the previous attack of this trouble a trained nurse was constantly in attendance for some weeks.
In later years I was awake all one night, alone in the house, striving to rise above a sense of being seriously ill. When morning to came it seemed as if it were impossible to rise. Then I remembered all my years in Science, of health and strength, of protection and peace and God's unfailing goodness; and this brought courage and help, and I stepped from my bed. As I did so these words rang out as a trumpet call to me (ibid., p. 471): "Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history." Again with joy unspeakable I experienced instantaneous healing.
