Whenever I read the words, "Divine Love always has met...
Whenever I read the words, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," as found on page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I rejoice anew for having been led by this divine Love to attend a Wednesday evening Christian Science testimony meeting.
In the fall of 1917 I left my parents' home for a distant city, expecting to take up a particular course of study which would prepare me for a chosen profession. From early childhood days I had suffered from homesickness whenever away from my parents, and soon after I arrived at college that difficulty began to appear in the most aggravated forms. Such dis-ease of thought caused me to neglect my studies; made me shun classmates and housemates; made me most unhappy, discontented, miserable, and in fact inactive, both physically and mentally. At last I was so depressed and wretched that I decided to take matters in my own hands and return to my loved ones—a failure! At that time a friend asked me to attend a Christian Science Wednesday evening meeting with her. The moment I entered the church the healing atmosphere of happiness, peace, and love began to enter my consciousness. Neither the reading from the desk nor the testimonies impressed me, but a motto engraved on the wall seemed to write itself on my consciousness in large letters. The words of that motto were those quoted at the beginning of this testimony.
Soon after that experience I purchased Science and Health and began the study of the Lesson-Sermons as found in the Christian Science Quarterly. I attended church services and lectures, and shall never forget the teaching and encouragement received while a pupil in the Sunday school. Needless to say, as I grew in the understanding of God as ever present Love and intelligence, my disease of mind and body began to disappear; my studies were completed with ease and often with excellent ratings, and many friendships were formed.
