My first healing in Christian Science was of tuberculosis,...
My first healing in Christian Science was of tuberculosis, a culmination of sickness which I had experienced from childhood to womanhood. During those years I attended so-called orthodox churches and was active in the work, loving to study the Bible. After almost everything known to medical science had been tried, the physicians despaired of saving my life. At this time I learned of Christian Science through picking up a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel in a neighbor's home. I was interested immediately and read much thereafter. I should like to say for the benefit of those who may be held in bondage by tuberculosis, that I did not then know anything about Christian Science other than that it was, to me, a religion much like others. As I read, however, I found it different from anything I had known before; that it confirmed much I had previously thought.
During this time a physician was dressing an abdominal wound that had been open for a year and a half. Without premeditation I ceased going to the doctor. In a few days I was surprised when I looked at the wound to see that it had closed. The reading of the Christian Science literature had brought about this healing. I was happier than I had ever been before. Life took on a better appearance for me, even though there was much evidence of lack in that which makes existence comfortable and happy. I was able to seek employment, and three weeks after the wound had healed I was able to hold a position that required much physical strength. Later I was healed of boils in one treatment.
For many months I seemed to take particular interest in testimonies of dental surgery as given at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings in the Christian Science churches, although at the time I had no need of such help. But the time came later when this need was most beautifully met. Sinusitis, caused by the extraction of an eye tooth, was practically healed in one treatment. It is claimed that such conditions require at least two years to heal; sometimes it is asserted that they are never healed.
