From the bottom of my heart I wish to testify to God's...

From the bottom of my heart I wish to testify to God's ever present help. When, four years ago, Christian Science came into my life, I was a sad and dissatisfied woman. Family discord and financial difficulties pressed unspeakably hard upon me. Our business took up a great deal of my time; and when I went to bed at night, tired out, I could not even pray. Then I read on pages 517 and 518 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Man is not made to till the soil. His birthright is dominion, not subjection." Dominion—freedom! That opened up a new world to me. And although I seemed to be confronted by mountains, it was a glimpse of light. I read as often as I could, and applied my slight understanding honestly.

Through a healing I soon had an opportunity to experience the power of Christian Science in a wonderful manner. I had not as yet learned to be led in all things by God, and still worried a great deal over hostile feelings toward us. About this time our fourth child was born. The fourth day after the birth I was taken with fever. My condition became so aggravated that over-excitement brought on mental derangement. I was taken to a psychiatric clinic. I lay there the whole night and clung to what I knew of Christian Science. The next morning the pain had disappeared, but to my dismay I discovered that I was behind barred windows and completely cut off from the outside world. One of the nurses who was especially kind to me said, "Tell the doctors just what you think and feel." Twice a day, three doctors and one of the head nurses came and examined me. I prayed so fervently that I might find the right words, and the second doctor actually said, "This woman should not be here;" and in the same quarter of an hour I was taken to another ward. I felt God's nearness as never before. I could repeat whole pages of the textbook, and some of the most beautiful passages came to my thought. Two days later I was examined again by three doctors. I was able to give such answers that I myself was surprised. The result was that I was discharged. My husband came for me, and it seemed as though life had been given me anew.

I have found peace in Christian Science, and to-day I am very happy and joyous. I know that God is our just Father and our most tender Mother. May this testimony prove to be as a drink of fresh water for some weary wanderer.
