The alleged quotation from Mary Baker Eddy against which a clergyman argued in your issue of May 20, is not to be found in her published writings, and does not accord with her accustomed modes of speech. In particular, Christian Science does not teach that disease is always the result of what is commonly called sinful thought. As Mrs. Eddy has actually said (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p.411): "The procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin. Disease is always induced by a false sense mentally entertained, not destroyed."
