[Written for the Sentinel]

"Be still, and know that I am God"

"Be still, and know that I am God"!
O Word, so fraught with calm and peace divine,
Enter into my thought, and dwelling there
Make it like Thine!

"Be still, and know that I am God"!
Dear restless one, dost thou not hear the voice
That calmed the raging sea in days of old?
List, and rejoice!

"Be still, and know that I am God" —
Thy loving Father! and thou art My son.
Wrapped in My love, to thee no harm can come,
No ill be done.

"Be still, and know that I am God"!
And seek in the great strength this brings to thee
To live for others, to uplift the Christ
That maketh free.
