At the time Christian Science was brought to my attention,...
At the time Christian Science was brought to my attention, which was in the fall of 1908, I was in a desperate condition both physically and mentally. I had suffered since childhood from chronic constipation, which had brought on eczema of the hands and feet. The thought of becoming incapacitated and unable to provide for my wife and three small children had brought on a nervous condition, and I was frightened and discouraged.
Our family physician, who had so kindly tried to help me for months, told me his medicine could do me no good. At this time a friend who had begun to study Christian Science visited me one Sunday afternoon. It was of him I first inquired concerning Christian Science healing; he brought me a copy of the Sentinel, and in a few days I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read this book for days and days. It was my food and drink; for though I had been a church member for years, I knew I was starving spiritually. The wonderful way that book changed my concept of God, man, and the universe! It was to me like a spring of cold water in the desert. After the first week I realized that the bowels had been normal every day, and in about two weeks the hands and feet were healed, and I was free. Free indeed! The children were placed in the Christian Science Sunday School, and later I was granted membership in a branch church and also in The Mother Church.
I am so grateful for class instruction, for the Christian Science periodicals, especially the Monitor, and for all the writings of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Pure gratitude to her has brought about many cases of healing.
