Out of gratitude for all that God has done for me through Christian Science, I send this testimony.

I had tried material remedies to no avail and had given up all hope of getting well. I was then living in northern Iowa, and one day a letter came from an old friend in Arkansas saying: "Try Christian Science. A year ago I would have said, Have nothing to do with it; but now I really believe there is something in it."

She sent me the address of a lady and told me to write and ask her for help. This I did, and the lady asked me to get "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and study it. When the book came I started to read at the beginning, but soon laid it down with the thought that I would go crazy if I read that. It showed me so plainly, however, that I was not living rightly; and yet I had done my best and felt I could do nothing more. But after a few days I decided that I would again try to read the book. As I read it made the Bible plain to me and it had always been such a mystery. I had wanted to believe in its teaching, but it had seemed to contradict itself so much. That was over ten years ago; now the Bible is like a different book. My little girl, ten years old, reads it and says she can understand it. I have taught her Christian Science from the beginning to the best of my ability, for my people and I have suffered so terribly because of our ignorance of God that I want to spare her.
