"In every thing give thanks"

"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." In such exultant terms the Apostle Paul addressed the early Christian converts in the city of Thessalonica.

In pointing out the dangers of ingratitude, our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 3), puts the direct question to all Christians, "Are we really grateful for the good already received?" And she adds, "Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more."

Here, then, is a lesson for us all, and a beautiful indication of the need of cultivating thanksgiving in every thought and action of our daily life. This lesson may be translated into an earnest desire to follow up the good work done on some special occasion with good work on every possible occasion. Thus the right attitude of thanksgiving for good will be assumed in every variety of experience presented to us.
