[Original testimony in German]
Consumption and cancer were prevalent in my family
Consumption and cancer were prevalent in my family. Sixteen of my relatives passed on with one or the other of these diseases. I too was taken ill with tuberculosis. I was under a specialist's treatment for six years. I underwent two courses of serum treatment and suffered a great deal. I also used many home remedies; but nothing relieved me. I weighed only eighty-four pounds. Then my daughter, at that time seventeen years old, was also obliged to undergo the same treatment on account of her lungs. We realized that human help was of no avail, and resigned ourselves to the fate of our ancestors.
Then one day dear acquaintances called our attention to Christian Science. We were so happy, for now we hoped to be saved. We studied the periodicals and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with great joy. A dear practitioner lovingly worked for us, and in a very short time the shooting pains had disappeared. We felt refreshed, began to take on weight, and were able to do our own work again. Since that time four years have passed, and we are enjoying the best of health. A year after I gave up medical treatment we met the doctor on the street. He was very much pleased to see how well we looked, and told me he had hoped to keep me alive a little longer, but he, as a doctor, had never thought I should recover to such an extent as I had.
Since we took up Christian Science we have experienced other wonderful blessings. I am profoundly grateful to my heavenly Father, the Giver of all good, for having led us to Christian Science, and to Mrs. Eddy for the wonderful book—Science and Health—which she, with unselfish love, gave to humanity.
