Several years ago, when I began to hear of Christian Science, I was very much interested in its teachings. At that time I did not feel that I was in a position to take up the study myself, but I would recommend it to others who were sick, and say, "If I had anything the matter with me that the doctor could not heal, I would try Christian Science." And just as if someone were speaking, a voice would say, But why not try God first? until I could not say it any more It was not long until I had a chance to prove what I had said.

The disease known as goiter manifested itself. Still I was not ready to trust God for healing, and called on our family physician to help me. He treated me for some time without any result; then he told me there could be nothing done, and not to pay any attention to it until I had to, then have it removed. I said to myself, "No knife shall be used on my neck." Soon after this I saw the need of taking up the study of Christian Science for other troubles in which the church of which I had been a member since childhood could not give me any comfort. After I had been studying and attending the Christian Science church services for some time and receiving help in many ways, the goiter began to give me so much trouble that I could not lie on my back, and I was in great pain. I then called a practitioner; and in less than ten days the trouble vanished, and no one would ever know that I had been bothered with anything of the kind.

At another time I was crossing the street in a near-by city when my ankle turned and I fell to my knees. I was helped up and had managed to get across the street with help, when it turned again. At first I thought it was broken, but on declaring the truth that I was not hurt to those who were with me, and knowing the reason why (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 397), I was freed from pain almost immediately, and was able to walk and do all that was necessary that afternoon without any difficulty and without any bad after effects whatever.
