Christian Science was brought to my attention about ten...
Christian Science was brought to my attention about ten years ago while I was employed as an orderly in a hospital. A copy of The Christian Science Journal was handed to me by one of the nurses, who remarked at the time that she had witnessed the healing through Christian Science of several cases that were considered incurable.
A condition that had proved troublesome for some time—the aftermath of an operation—necessitated my calling for help from a Christian Science practitioner. For two years I remained at this institution, during which time I found it necessary to prove many things. After two months under Christian Science treatment, a position in another department was obtained. Prior to coming into Christian Science I was subject to indigestion and dyspepsia. One of the first proofs of the healing efficacy of Christian Science which I received came through the understanding of Jesus' words, "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." Mrs. Eddy writes on pages 388 and 389 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "If mortals think that food disturbs the harmonious functions of mind and body, either the food or this thought must be dispensed with, for the penalty is coupled with the belief." I saw that two people could partake of food served from the same dish and the effect which followed might vary according to their thought. On one occasion an attack of sciatic rheumatism was experienced.
Through the loving help of the practitioner this condition was overcome in a week. The meeting of this condition was watched by the faculty at the hospital with keen interest.
