I am grateful that Christian Science came into my home...
I am grateful that Christian Science came into my home when I was a small child. My aunt had been an invalid for many years, and had tried many physicians and many methods of healing, but to no avail. The doctors told her she had not a sound organ in her body and would never take a walk of any distance again. Hearing that a Christian Science practitioner was in a near-by city, she decided to try Christian Science. After two weeks' treatment she returned home, walking the distance from the railroad station, about two miles and a half.
"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was brought into our home, and my mother began to read it. She had been operated upon several times for tumors, and the doctors had told her she would not live through another operation. When the tumors began to grow again she kept on reading the book, and in a short time was entirely healed. The home which had been governed by so-called material laws, and constantly visited by doctors, now became filled with the joy of learning more about God. For the love Christian Science brought into the home, and for the reflected love it has always meant to me, I cannot be too grateful. And for the blessing of having my mother restored to me for over thirty years I am constantly grateful.
I have never taken any medicine, and was free from many of the children's diseases; and the few which manifested themselves were quickly overcome through Christian Science treatment. The freedom from fear of material laws and from contagion which Christian Science gives is a wonderful help to a child. I have often been protected at times of contagion, and I am grateful that Christian Science teaches how to overcome fear. The understanding of God as the one intelligence helped me all through my school days; and while in college I was especially grateful that I knew something about God, when so many were losing their faith after studying philosophy and psychology.
