A few years ago I knew nothing about Christian Science...
A few years ago I knew nothing about Christian Science, and was fully convinced I did not wish to know anything about it. For several years I had been suffering from ulcers of the stomach, and was not able to eat anything without severe distress. A peculiar growth, about the size of a small walnut, had also appeared on my left hand and was very painful.
At this time my wife, who had read a little about Christian Science, tried to induce me to attend a Christian Science lecture which was advertised in our city. Not having the slightest interest in Science at the time, in fact, ignorantly and maliciously condemning what I thought it to be, I went to the lecture much against my own wish, taking all the skepticism and criticism with me that I could muster, and feeling certain that I would settle the "fad" once and for all. I listened very intently to the lecture, trying hard to find something that I could condemn, but the reasoning on the facts put forward registered themselves upon my consciousness (even though I would not then admit the fact to my friends), with the result that two days afterwards I noticed that the growth had disappeared from my hand; and in about three weeks from that time I also noticed a decided change in regard to the difficulty I had been experiencing with my stomach. With continued study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in conjunction with the Bible, and by the reading of the authorized Christian Science literature, the unpleasant experience from which I had been suffering for about fifteen years entirely vanished, and I have enjoyed the best of health ever since.
My feeble words cannot begin to express the gratitude that I feel for the enlightenment thrown upon the Scriptures through the untiring and unselfish effort of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and also for our periodicals; and for the opportunities that are given us to serve in the advancement of this wonderful revelation.
