Speaking of "simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers...
Speaking of "simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 570), "Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." It is with the deepest gratitude that I present this testimony, hoping that it may be as this cup of cold water to some weary wanderer, as other loving testimonies have been to me.
Christian Science was presented to me about twenty-one years ago at the healing of a brother. I did not take up the study for physical healing, but out of curiosity. I thought I was having a good time, sowing my wild oats if you please. Still I knew something was wrong. Soon after I had read a few pages of Science and Health, I learned that God's work is finished and perfect. Sometimes mortal mind put up what looked like strong arguments. At first I accepted them, only to find them lacking: they did not give satisfaction. Then I would turn back to God, to find Him waiting. Christian Science is, without a doubt, the Comforter Jesus promised should come.
I have learned that we cannot put Christian Science on a shelf for future use; it is a necessity that we use it constantly. In my own family I have seen a sick one raised from what appeared to be a deathbed, and mental surgery performed. Influenza, quinsy, poisoning of different kinds have been met, sometimes with the aid of a practitioner. And many times, through the honest application of my own understanding of the truth, I have been surprised at the wonderful results obtained. But what stands out before me most is the way in which the children grasp the truth.
