I wish to express my deep gratitude for my healing in...
I wish to express my deep gratitude for my healing in 1901. I had long been a member of a Protestant church, and since the age of eighteen had firmly believed in Christ Jesus' healing of the sick and the possibility of his followers doing the same, but in a most assiduous study of the Scriptures I had never found the recipe for spiritual healing.
At this time an able physician and surgeon (my husband's brother-in-law) diagnosed my case as pulmonary throat and lung trouble. He said drugs would never heal me; that change of climate to the Rocky Mountains or the Pacific Coast might benefit me. But change of climate did not appeal to me.
In my weakened condition I was unable to attend my own church, it being quite a distance away. A Christian Science church was near by, so my husband and I thought it best to go there. I was greatly impressed with the Lesson-Sermon, and felt a strong desire to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Soon afterward I purchased a copy of it, and immediately began reading it promiscuously; but while humanly searching for the recipe for physical healing I found none. Then the voice of divine Love spoke to my consciousness: Begin reading on the first page of the book and search for the light of Truth. With fervent desire and prayer I then became an earnest seeker for light. When I saw there was but one infinite God, one infinite power, like a flood of light I realized there could be no evil power; and the seeming evil rolled away. With love-inspired thought, my joy was boundless. I rejoiced that I had found the recipe for healing.
