A few years ago I read a testimony in The Christian Science Journal which told of a woman who had been healed in Christian Science of a weak constitution which she had carried with her from childhood, of chronic stomach trouble, and of a morbid and depressed disposition. It reminded me of my own childhood, the great difference, however, being that I was born in Christian Science. In spite of the above-mentioned mortal laws, through the persistent support of this Science I have been so helped that I have never known what it is to be in bondage to rules of diet. A great wave of gratitude sweeps over me to think that, through Christian Science, so much of health, strength, freedom, and joy have been given me, and there comes a renewed impulse to go forward and realize more of the truth. I have been so free from these bonds that perhaps I am not always grateful enough; but as I progress step by step, and meet the different beliefs of limitation which so-called mortal law would impose upon us, I am increasingly grateful for Christian Science.
I have been healed of many things, some large and some small. On different occasions I have had bad falls which tried to incapacitate me. Each time I have been able to go on with my duties, soon freed from any bad effects. Twice an injury to my spine seemed so severe that I was not able to walk erectly, and help was asked from a practitioner. The first time I could not lie down for three days and nights, but on the fourth day I found myself completely free and strong. The second time, I walked with much pain for a week, but was able to care for my two children and other duties. At the end of that time the pain left me as quickly and completely as on the first occasion.
Each day I am grateful for the protection this truth is to our children. Many ills have been overcome for them. Our healings are not always quick, but each means a step forward; and surely it is a wonderful thing to know God as an ever present Helper. Our little boy caught his thumb in the door of a car while riding one day, and it was severely crushed. A practitioner was called, and his crying and the great pain stopped immediately. Within a very short time the thumb was normal, and there is not even a scar left.
