Over thirty-three years ago the truth of Christian Science came to us through a neighbor who had received many blessings in her home. She urged my parents to give Christian Science a trial, as physicians held out no hope of my ever being well. At this time several members in our home were in a critical condition. Their healings were wonderful and permanent. From the day that Christian Science treatment was begun, we have never doubted God's care and protection.

At that time I was in a terrible condition. I had never been able to walk, and my spine was not strong enough to support my back. The suffering was intense, and I was compelled to lie on my stomach most of the time. My feet and legs were not straight. I was indeed in need of God's help! My healing was a positive proof to us all of Christian Science healing. My grandmother was healed of double pneumonia and pleurisy, after being in bed for eight weeks. Physicians had given the verdict that they could do nothing more for her. She was healed in a very short time. Whooping cough, malignant diphtheria, influenza, measles, and fevers have been met in a short time. The overcoming of stomach disorder, erysipelas, rheumatism, severe burns, sprained ankle, has brought added proof of the healing efficacy of Truth into our home, through our holding steadfastly to our understanding of Christian Science. These discords yielded quickly when Science was applied; but for the benefit of some who are struggling along more slowly I should like to say there are times when we have to prove each step for ourselves as we go. Catarrh, believed to be hereditary, seemed very stubborn. It was many years before this was overcome, although I worked earnestly and sincerely. This experience taught me many valuable lessons in patience, watchfulness, obedience, and gratitude.

I am thankful that even as a small child I was taught the value of the truth and encouraged to make an effort to help myself. My mother had taught me that, wherever I was, God was, and He would help and heal me. There have been a few times when it has seemed necessary to ask for help from a practitioner, and the help has always been received with a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude.
