[Written for the Sentinel]

Galilee

Dear Sea of Galilee, beloved,
Your waves are blue with heaven's light,
And o'er you, now, as in the past,
Keep guard the shining stars at night.

The same strong hills around you lie,
And springtime brings the lilies bright;
Your evenings glow with clouds of gold
And roseate hues of fading light.

We love you for the memories sweet
Of that fair time of long ago,
When Jesus walked beside your waves,
And healed the human heart of woe.

We read the stories o'er and o'er,
That we may find the truth they own,
And, like him, reach the heart of Love,
And now as sons of God be known.

We strive to know his purity,
To gain his tender, healing touch;
For now, as in those days of old,
The Comforter is needed much.

The same dear Christ is with us now
That wrought those miracles of love;
And healing peace and tender joy
Fall ever softly from above.

Dear Sea of Galilee, beloved
Forever while the centuries roll,
Because of him who taught us how
To tread Love's way from sense to Soul!
