I have had many reasons to be grateful for Christian Science...
I have had many reasons to be grateful for Christian Science during the twenty-one years since my parents first became interested through the complete healing of an aunt from total blindness, after unsuccessful treatment by specialists. This healing was related in a letter of gratitude written by my aunt to Mrs. Eddy, and later published in the Christian Science Sentinel of January 2, 1909. Shortly after this healing, a brother and I were entered in a Christian Science Sunday School and had the opportunity of continuing as Sunday school pupils until the age of twenty.
As a young child I had been ill on several occasions, and necessarily absent from school; but from the time I entered the Christian Science Sunday School, while in the seventh grade, on through high school and college, I was enabled to maintain a perfect attendance record. Subsequently I was in the army for some twenty-one months, and thereafter for four years was a civilian employee of the Government without ever taking sick leave.
During a busy year at college, a boil appeared on my wrist, becoming painful and unsightly. I tried to heal the wrist with my own understanding of Christian Science; but this proved inadequate, and so the help of a practitioner was requested. Shortly thereafter the discharge ceased, and healing resulted. Other boils soon appeared on my neck, but these yielded readily to Christian Science treatment. I was especially grateful at this time to be able to continue without interruption my work in lecture room and laboratory. I have also been healed, among other things, of sore throat, warts, and a nameless attack of evil, the effect of which was to produce extreme drowsiness throughout the day. This last was overcome in one day, and has never returned.
