Several years ago, while I was under the care of physicians...
Several years ago, while I was under the care of physicians, who offered no hope, Christian Science was suggested to me. My illness was a combination of spinal meningitis, pleuropneumonia, and peritonitis, with internal abscesses. The attending physician thought that if I did recover I would be an invalid.
The loving help of a Christian Science practitioner was sought, and under Science treatment I gained health steadily and rapidly. There were continually openng up to me ways of joyous freedom, bounded everywhere by a sense of the atmosphere of infinite Love. Loving friends were made, and within a few months an opportunity to visit the White Mountains, which I had longed to see, was given me. While there, in perfect health, I was able to climb the trails and ride the burros, doing things the physician had claimed I could never do. My heart overflowed with gratitude as the words of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 442) were fulfilled; "Mortal Man, no longer sick and in prison, walked forth, his feet 'beautiful upon the mountains,' as of one 'that bringeth good tidings.'"
Some time previous to the above-mentioned healing, while visiting a Christian Scientist, I received an instantaneous healing of a severe case of tonsillitis, being enabled to arise from my bed immediately. Gratitude was apparently not firmly grounded with this healing, for it was not until this later uplifting of thought appeared that I accepted whole-heartedly Christian Science teaching. Since then Christian Science has been my only guide. I have always looked, through understanding of it, to our Father-Mother God for every help. During the influenza epidemic a few years ago I was healed, and many other physical and mental trials have been readily corrected.
