It was in the year 1916, while laboring under chronic heart trouble and falsely accusing God of taking my family away from me, that I accepted Christian Science. I cannot say that healings were instantaneous, but it was just in the proportion that I was willing to give up material beliefs for spiritual ideas, as taught in Christian Science, that healings resulted.

The good that I have received, and am receiving every day, is beyond expression. Howevere, there is one healing which stands out most vividly in my memory: it was of an injury to an eyelid. I was rowing a boat for my husband, who was casting for fish. The artificial bait he was using had nine hooks on it. As he raised his arm to cast, his thumb slipped off the reel and the bait went backward instead of forward, and one of the hooks fastened itself in my eyelid. Although this hook had to be broken in two pieces to be removed, my husband did the work himself; and with the audible declaration and clear realization of the omnipresence of God, and the "scientific statement of being" as found on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the incident was painless. The healing was almost instantaneous: only a slight scar, not even an inflamed eyeball, resulted. I was back at the oars and rowing the boat in less than fifteen minutes.

I am certainly grateful to God for the small understanding I have of His goodness; grateful to Christ Jesus, and to Mrs. Eddy for her patience and endurance in discovering this wonderful truth for a hungry and thirsty world.
