Opportunity

MANY persons have regarded opportunity as accidental, elusive, the result of chance or luck, coming rarely to even the most deserving. They have ignorantly circumscribed their health, activity, and ability, as well as their sense of supply, by believing in the lack of auspicious circumstances. Monotony, discord, and woe have dulled their perception, and they have thus failed to discern the true sense of liberty.

In Proverbs we read, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Christian Science has brought the true vision. It shows that opportunity is an ever recurring spiritual fact, a gateway leading to eternal activity, not a mere incident of time. It shows that God, divine Principle, can always "furnish a table in the wilderness;" and many have proved this to be so. Time may chronicle human experiences, measured by minutes, hours, days, and years, often expressing limitation and failure; but Christian Science enables one to grasp an understanding of the Christ, Truth, sufficiently to utilize on each timely occasion the spiritual power with which God has endowed His image and likeness, man.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, points to the inexhaustible source of man's resourcefulness, when she says in "Christian Healing" (p. 19), "Tireless Being, patient of man's procrastination, affords him fresh opportunities every hour;" and in the opening lines of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she gives the positive declaration of omnipresent opportunity: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."
