Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1927

For many years past, Committees on Publication and Assistant Commttees on Publication have been conferring with editors and publishers regarding the correction of erroneous statements in their periodicals; and the kindly attitude shown by the press towards our religion is due, in part at least, to the alertness and wisdom of former Committees and Assistants.

The public radiocasting stations of Southern California have generally cooperated with this office to prevent the radiocasting of misleading statements regarding our Leader and Christian Science. On the stage, antagonism is seldom directed publicly towards our religion, but a play was lately produced which contained lines that conveyed a wrong impression of Christian Science. Before this play was given recently a protest was made, and the management agreed to omit the objectionable references.

The Committees on Publication for Northern and for Southern California act jointly regarding legislative matters at the state capitol; and during the recent legislative session, approximately one hundred measures were watched for their possible effect upon Christian Scientists and our church activities. Senate Bill 570: One result of the enactment of this bill is that the new unit in San Francisco for The Christian Science Benevolent Association will not be subject to the regulations of and inspections by the State Department of Public Welfare. Senate Bill 815: The enactment of this bill gives a legal definition of a training school for nurses, and thereby protects the San Francisco unit of The Christian Science Benevolent Association from the state requirements governing training schools for nurses.
