In November, 1924, I was taken ill with the grippe and could no longer carry on my work as a miner. I dragged myself about until Christmas, 1924, when dropsy of the heart developed, and I was entirely confined to my bed. According to the doctor's opinion my case was very serious, and although I was continually under medical treatment my condition did not improve. To crown all, I was taken with inflammation of the chest and pleurisy. The doctor was obliged to tap me twice on account of the accumulating water. I grew steadily worse, and was very much emaciated. As I had been ill for six months, the sick fund's obligation to care for me ceased in April, 1925; and still there was no sign of improvement.

At times I thought I should never get well, although I was only nineteen years old. My condition caused my parents great distress and anxiety. When things were at their worst, a dear friend who came to see me told me about Christian Science. Soon afterwards I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, which was most unselfishly given. My condition began to improve rapidly: I could get up, and felt better every day. The pain, too, disappeared quickly. After seven weeks I was able to give up Christian Science treatment, as I was well. This healing, which surprised everyone, I owe solely to Christian Science, which came into my life at the right moment.

About a year ago I suffered from a malignant abscess. I applied my slight understanding of the truth, thinking it would disappear, but this was not the case. So I asked for Christian Science treatment; and to my joy there were soon signs of improvement, leading eventually to complete healing.
