The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Plymouth, England (First Church).

Lecturer: Miss Violet Ker Seymer; introduced by Arthur Norton Carter, who said:—

We are told in the book of Psalms that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea." This is only one of many similar promises to be found in the Bible. Christian Science teaches that these promises can be brought to bear upon our everyday life now just as well as in Jesus' time; and the object of the lecture this afternoon is mainly to show how this is possible. I will relate a little experience of my own as to the healing power of Christian Science. For a few years previous to knowing anything about this healing religion I had what is known as valvular heart trouble, which was causing many other serious difficulties. Doctors told me they could do nothing more for me, and advised me that it would be necessary for me to be very careful the rest of my life. I then took up the study of Christian Science, and in a comparatively short time this condition was entirely and permanently healed. I was able to prove on this occasion, as I have on many others since, that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Gunnison, Colorado (First Church).
