Love's Healing Power
Christian scientists are sometimes slow to learn the healing power of divine Love. "God is love," John tells us. He also says, "He that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." What a wealth of inner meaning these passages have if carefully studied! And what we really understand, we can use in our living. Just as we look into a mirror and see ourselves reflected, so, through divine Science, we should see what we understand reflected in our lives. Our Leader says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 113), "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love." We must, therefore, learn more about divine Love; learn how to know it, how to love it, and how to live it. When we do learn this, we shall find a blessing on every side. Such thoughts as we send out come back to us. How important, then, to send out thoughts of love, kindness, gentleness, goodness, gratitude! Love is as light; hate is as darkness. Persistent and unfaltering love melts away all the shadows of doubt, hate, and fear.
Not only will the understanding of divine Love tend to make our surroundings and associates more congenial and pleasant, but disease will disappear before the realization and reflection of this wonderful power. On page 365 of Science and Health our Leader says, "If the Scientist reaches his patient through divine Love, the healing work will be accomplished at one visit, and the disease will vanish into its native nothingness like dew before the morning sunshine." How important, then, to see those whom we would help as dwelling in divine Love; not as children of error or of the flesh, but as children of Love, as loving and lovable. If God is Love, His children must be like Him; and seeing them as such destroys all the lies that material sense pretends to tell about them.
How often have we been helped and encouraged by someone saying a kind word to us! Such a one was reaching us "through divine Love." In no other way can one really be reached; for divine Love is the real man's only dwelling place, his only consciousness. As we let this consciousness of Love fill our lives, we radiate the assurance of God, good, to others.
