I regard it as a great privilege to be able to recount some of the healings I have experience since studying Christian Science, and I hope that they will be to others what so many testimonies have been to me—a cup of cold water in the name of Christ.

In 1914 my wife had become interested in Christian Science through her brother, who had met with a motor accident and been healed through Christian Science treatment. My wife told me something about Christian Science, but I was very skeptical and did not believe very much of it. This was largely due to the fact that, with so many troubles around me, I could not believe in a God of love.

I was then an active naval officer in the Royal Dutch Navy, and was suffering from tropical malaria, often having very severe attacks accompanied with high fever. Once, upon a severe attack, being hardly able to stand up, I went to my berth on board. My wife had left with me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I now decided to give this book a chance. When I had finished reading the Preface to this blessed book, I was completely healed of the so-called disease, and it has never come back again.
