The Christian Science Monitor

Yorkshire, England.

In a letter addressed to the clergy and laity one of the bishops in the county said: "The church ought to be paying far more attention to spiritual healing than has been the case. ... Christian Science has taken an amazing hold in the United States of America, and has been spreading with startling rapidity, especially in the large towns, here in England." The Bishop of Woolwich, in an address entitled "The Ministry of Healing," said: "Christian Science is increasing by hundreds and hundreds every week. Why? Because they believe the gospel of healing is what people want. ... They believe, and they get result." The Vicar of Burton Leonard, in his address delivered to the Druids, said that the unity of Christians was the welfare of Christianity, and he was sure that with the advancement of Christian Science would come the overthrown of bodily ill health.

The Forum Club held a meeting which was attended by clergy, ministers, doctors, and others, for the purpose of considering "important subjects bearing upon the practical application of Christianity." After a brief reference to Christian Science, one of the clergy stated he thought it remained true in that movement, or in that church, they had a religious enthusiasm which was not untrue to the religion of Jesus, and which had certainly been fruitful of good works. The movement had attained remarkable dimensions and had a very widespread influence. Sussex, England.
