I am giving this experience of the power of Christian Science to heal sorrow as well as sickness, in the hope that it may be of help to someone who is suffering from a sense of loss and loneliness.

Some years ago a great sorrow came into my life, through the loss of my husband. Although the little I knew of Christian Science did help me, I had not received the complete healing which I had read that others had experienced. The reason for this is very plain to me now, on looking back. I was trying to do the best I could, thinking I would not yield to grief, but would, as far as I could, be of use to others. All the time, however, I was holding the mental reservation that this loss could never be repaired, this gap never filled.

This state of affairs went on for about six years, and then there came a time when great difficulties had to be overcome and important decisions made. There was not, at that time, anyone to whom I could turn for the help or advice which I needed. It was just then that I was forced to drop the mental attitude which said that God could not give me back what I had lost, and to say instead, in the humility of mortal helplessness, "God, fill this gap in any way." I can remember now the wonderful peace and assurance which came to me when I thus yielded to God. Very soon after this, circumstances brought me into touch with those who, through their understanding of Christian Science, could and did help me.
