The Law of Spiritual Healing
Christian Science makes plain to its students that there is a law of healing—not a physical law, however, but a spiritual law. For years many of them struggled in vain for the healing of some form of disease which had probably incapacitated them, using all the remedies which mortals place confidence in, but to no avail. Then Christian Science came with its statements of absolute truth, revealing the real nature of God and man—God's image—revealing the eternal relationship which exists between God and man, and making clear the law which invalidates all the false beliefs of the so-called human mind—and healed them. And since their first healing, how often have they been able to demonstrate for themselves, and probably for others, that sacred spiritual law!
To comprehend the law of spiritual healing one must first of all gain some understanding of God; and this understanding Christian Science gives. Christian Science teaches that God is infinite divine Principle, the one and only cause, and that as divine Principle He creates and governs, harmoniously and perfectly, the entire spiritual universe, including individual man. Christian Science teaches also that since God is infinite Spirit, the spiritual universe is the only real universe, thus denying reality to matter or a material creation. The fact that the spiritual universe is real and the so-called material creation unreal is a most important one to understand; for on the apprehension of it depends the faith which is so necessary in applying the law of spiritual healing.
But if creation—the real creation—is perfect, what is in need of healing? It cannot possibly be any part of God's creation; it cannot possibly be the real man. Mortals believe that it is the material body that is in need of healing, or else it is the "mind" which they believe to exist in and to be dependent upon that so-called material body. But in reality there is no material body, since matter is unreal; hence, in reality, there can be no diseased material body. Furthermore, since God is infinite, the one perfect Principle or Mind, man, His idea, reflects perfect consciousness; consequently, imperfect consciousness does not really exist.
