Confidence in God
It is a great thing to have confidence in one's ideals. Without faith in them they would be of little practical value; one would be hesitant in their application if he were unable to place reliance upon them. Inquire into the life-history of the reformers who have blessed their day and generation, and it will be found that their ideals were everything to them; that they had implicit faith in them, and were firmly persuaded of the necessity of making them known to their fellow-men, so that they too might be benefited.
The idealism which Christian Science places before mankind is the perfection of God and His idea, man; from which the fact is deduced that Truth, God, is real and error unreal. And this ideal truth when realized, even to a limited extent, works wonders for the children of men, inspiring them with a superb confidence, which is able to sustain them in an extraordinary manner in their conflict with the evil beliefs of the world. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 368), "The confidence inspired by Science lies in the fact that Truth is real and error is unreal."
Think what a difference it must make to one to understand, and to be able to demonstrate in some degree, the reality of good and the unreality of evil! To be convinced of God's allness and of the unreality of all unlike good,—to be convinced beyond a shadow of doubt,—think what that must mean to the individual! Matter and so-called material law cannot possibly continue to assume the importance they once did; and as their unreality becomes apparent their supposititious power diminishes, leaving the one who is gaining the victory more and more immune from every form of inharmony, including sickness. Many a Christian Scientist could testify to what Christian Science has done for him along this line. Christian Science has repeatedly lifted those in sickness, sorrow, or sin out of the depths of hopelessness and despair, healing them through the confidence in God, Truth, it has inspired!
