Christian Scientists have read with a great deal of appreciation the remarks of a reverend doctor which were published in your recent issue, in which he indicates that there may be at least some measure of truth in the religion of Christian Science. While he also infers that there have been added things that might not be true, yet his remarks are at least much more kindly and charitable than are those sometimes made by evangelists in speaking of Christian Science. Please permit me to say, however, that Christian Science should not be classified with systems of mental suggestion such as new-thought and psychotherapy as used by some modern schools of medicine. Christian Science healing is entirely through prayer, the prayer of faith and of spiritual understanding. It is based upon Christ Jesus' command to "heal the sick" as well as to "preach the gospel." Christian Science emphasizes the casting out of sin from human thought and experience. Its ministrations are an endeavor to fulfill the whole of the gospel of Christ; and the lives of Christian Scientists attest their Christianity.
