The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Beaver Dam, Wisconsin (Society).

Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Wilbur F. Webb, who said:—

You who have visited a Christian Science church edifice may have found upon its walls in letters of gold the words of the beloved apostle, "God is love." Lines from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science textbook, by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (p. 494), are also sometimes prominently set forth that all may read: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." The Master's invitation, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest," is not only often inscribed upon our church walls, but is held, a living message, in the consciousness of every Christian Scientist. Christian Science knocked at the portal of my thought, or rather made me a friendly gesture, many years ago, but was turned away as an unwelcome stranger; and, I am sorry to say, it was turned away, if not with jest, at any rate with indifference and a disdain amounting to discourtesy. But about six years ago Christian Science came into my life and helped me to find the God who is Love. My needs were many, my strength being apparently gone, as the result of wrong thinking and consequent wrong acting. I found in this metaphysical healing the truth as taught by Jesus the Christ and rediscovered by Mary Baker Eddy, and in turn there was made understandable to me by patient, loving practitioners, that healing, physical and mental, which I had long sought.
