I wish to express gratitude for what Christian Science...
I wish to express gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me. About four and a half years ago I was a physical wreck. The doctors told me that an operation for the removal of gallstones was necessary, but owing to other complications it could not be performed unless these different disorders could be corrected. They did not hold forth much hope. Shattered in health, a nervous wreck, and almost without funds, I felt that the outlook was nearly hopeless. In my extremity I turned to God and asked Him to help me.
A few days later a Christian Scientist came to call on the people in whose home I was stopping, and Christian Science was thus brought to my attention. I felt that it came in answer to my prayer and I expressed a desire to know something about it. I was presented with a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I pondered over its pages for the next few days, doing little else but read; and as I read I began to feel a sense of ease from suffering. I had not been able to sleep without a sedative for a month. I found I could now sleep naturally and restfully. In about ten days I was free from all symptoms of the gallstones, and there has not been any return of the trouble since. I then went to a practitioner and work was done for other ailments. I was healed of chronic constipation, pyorrhea, a congested condition of the lungs, which made its appearance each winter, and of many other physical disorders.
I desired to know something of Christian Science and what had healed me, so I began to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and to read the Journal and Sentinel. I attended the Sunday services and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, where I heard of the wonderful healings that had come to others. These, together with an earnest study of the textbook and other writings by our beloved Leader, unfolded to me in some measure the wonderful truth that has come to this age through Christian Science. Although I am most grateful for the physical healings and the splendid health I now enjoy, I am more grateful for the moral healing and healing of thought, and the awakened desire to know God and to express more and more of Godlike qualities. This no surgeon's knife could have brought about. It is a great source of pleasure to prove daily God's loving-kindness and guidance in everyday affairs. In the problems of supply, rightful place, and the routine of daily duties Christian Science has never failed to work out an harmonious solution when properly applied.
