Christian Science came to me at a time of great need, for...
Christian Science came to me at a time of great need, for to material sense I could go no farther. I was ill physically and mentally, without material means, discouraged, and sick at heart. There were so many problems to be worked out, seemingly all at the same time, and also many obligations to be met, all of which seemed to depend on me. Many weary years were spent in sickness and the search for relief, without avail. I had had asthma in a severe form from childhood, being unable to attend school for from one to three weeks at a time. Every material means was tried, and I was pronounced incurable by every physician who had my case. Complications developed one by one, so that it seemed impossible to live longer.
I am thankful to say that Christian Science has changed all this. I am now strong and well in every way. I have also been healed of hay fever, continued colds, and constipation. A gathering in the head, together with an attack of pneumonia, was healed in less than three hours. I was healed of influenza so severe that the claim of death held my thought, as well as being expressed by members of the household. I had been in a serious condition for several days with intense suffering, but within an hour from the time it was believed that I was passing on I was sitting up perfectly free from any physical discord, and visiting with callers; and the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding" was so great that all in the house were uplifted by it and mentioned the fact, although none were Christian Scientists. A healing was also experienced from a severe illness in the form of throat trouble accompanied by high fever. For two days and nights I seemed to be burning up. I could get no rest either sitting in a chair or lying in bed, and could take scarcely any nourishment. On the third morning all fever and discord left suddenly, and I was free.
There are no words with which I can express my gratitude for all these blessings; but above all is the spiritual uplift, a sense of being free from the bonds of material laws. Discouragement, worry, disappointment, unrest, timidity, criticism, and many other errors are being overcome. Before I had help in Christian Science I seemed to live continually in the bonds of discouragement, fear, and unhappiness; whereas to know that there is a way by which every problem may be worked out and every error overcome is a constant source of blessing, filling me with hope and joy and a sense of freedom which no words can express.
