Doubtless nothing unfriendly or inaccurate was intended...

Pioneer Times

Doubtless nothing unfriendly or inaccurate was intended by the lady who, in referring to a Swami lecture, said in a recent issue: "Not a new thing did he tell us that night. It might well have passed for a Christian Science lecture." However, to prevent any misunderstanding, please permit me to say that Christian Science is so utterly and radically different from anything in Hindu philosophy, that it would not require a deep understanding of either to distinguish them. Probably our friend did not mean to state that a Christian Science lecture does not tell anything new, although that would be correct in one sense. Christian Science lectures bring forth truths that have always existed; but since they were lost to human understanding for some seventeen centuries prior to the advent of Christian Science, these truths are new to the consciousness of a great many, who hear of them for the first time at these lectures.

One of these truths is that God—infinite Love—does not condemn His children to lives of sickness and sin, but in His infinite wisdom and power provides a ready and effectual means of destroying these evils. As Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Pref., p. xi): "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural." Through the understanding of Christian Science, often introduced through these lectures, thousands have been able to lead healthier, holier, and happier lives.
