I am most grateful for some understanding of what Christian Science is, and for what it is doing for the whole world. In 1917, during the dark days of the war, I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time my little son (aged eighteen months) developed whooping cough in a very severe form, but was quickly healed through the faithful work and understanding of a practitioner. Since that time he has not had any material remedies of any kind, and has been healed of influenza, mumps, colds, and a skin disease. When he was five years old he was the only one, out of a class of ten children, to be entirely free from an epidemic of chicken pox. I am most grateful for the protecting power of ever present divine Love, which is revealed to us through Christian Science.
I have been healed of many ailments, including bad headaches, frequent colds, extreme nervousness, and bronchial asthma. Three medical men had told me that I should probably suffer all my life from the last-named condition, and that all they could do for me would be to give me something that would relieve the asthmatical attacks; but none of them could promise a cure. Some little time after knowing something of Christian Science I was stricken with one of these attacks. I asked for help from a practitioner, and was healed in a few hours, without suffering from the extreme weakness and exhaustion which had always followed the attacks. It is a joy to know, through the revelation of Christian Science, that we can all "rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good" (Science and Health, p. 393). Although I am very grateful for the physical healings which take place through Christian Science, I am more grateful still for the peace of mind which becomes ours as we learn more of this wonderful truth.
For membership with The Mother Church and also with a branch church I am very grateful; also for the various activities of church work which it is my privilege to share. Through Christian Science I am learning true humility, the humility which knows that we can do nothing of ourselves; and unbounded confidence in God, the confidence that knows that nothing is impossible to man, since man is God's reflection. I am most grateful to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Margaret Wingfield, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.
