Letters from the Field

[Extract from report of the Christian Science Worker at Preston School of Industry, Ione, California]

It is with a heart filled with gratitude that the Christian Science Worker sends in his report, giving but a glimpse of the past year's work in the Father's vineyard at the Preston School of Industry for Boys, at Ione, California. This year has witnessed an increased interest in Christian Science, although, with those so young and many with no religious training whatever, it is not surprising that the lads seem less religiously inclined than the adults. The lending library has issued one hundred and seventy books, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy being the most in demand, with the Bible next, followed by "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur. During the year one hundred and eleven boys asked for treatment and received healing, most of them responding very quickly, while some were instantly healed. The healing of one boy of a bad case of blood poisoning has resulted in the lad's company officer becoming interested, and the latter is now studying Christian Science.

Many letters are being constantly received from parents of boys who are or have been at the school, and from boys who have gone out from it, all expressing gratitude for the benefits the boys are receiving, or have received while here.

A new activity has been instituted by the Christian Science Worker recently, in the nature of interviews. The boys wanted are called out, and, in the seclusion of a comfortable office provided for this purpose, a closer contact with the boy is had. Boys are thus afforded the advantage of present treatment when needed, as well as confidential talks and counsel. During these interviews many boys have asked that Christian Science literature be sent to their parents, that they might find God.
