I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science, in...
I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science, in the hope that others may be helped. Often in the middle of a busy day I visit a neighboring Christian Science Reading Room and turn to the testimonies printed in the Sentinel or Journal, and after reading them, return to the office with my head a little higher, my step a little lighter, and my consciousness fuller of love for humanity.
At the time of my birth my mother had Christian Science help exclusively; but a few years later I was sent to an orthodox Sunday school near our home. From early boyhood I found nothing satisfying in the church to which it was connected. The seeds of Truth sown by the practitioner at the time of my birth, even though seemingly little understood by my mother at the time, bore fruit, and divine Love led me alone to a Christian Science church located on the other side of the city in which we lived. I knew at once that I had found the right place. Before long my parents, relatives, and dearest friends attended the services regularly.
When eighteen years of age I wore the army uniform and read my copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy every time I had a few minutes. While passing through the wilderness of changing beliefs, and trying to exchange my blind beliefs for the understanding of God's law, I was able to drill as usual after being inoculated in both arms. At one time during the influenza epidemic I became so weak while drilling that consciousness seemed to be leaving me. I repeated, "God is my Life," over and over again. I asked for help from a practitioner thirty miles away. After three or four hours I was healed, and entered again into all the strenuous activities of army life, keeping out of the camp hospital.
