God Revealed as Mind

When Christian Science was first becoming known, it was through its claim to heal by the power of Mind alone, without the use of material remedies. Some who were healed in this way, people whose conditions were otherwise regarded as hopeless, said to interested friends that the allness of Mind made a great appeal to them, and they could readily see that their healing would have been impossible had their mental condition not been changed by the arguments of Truth found in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, or as presented to them by practitioners. Not all at once, however, did people come to see that the "mind" which was the seat of disease and discord was not the Mind from which healing and harmony came, in other words, the Mind which is God.

Few, if any, had ever been accustomed to think or speak of God as Mind; yet when their attention was called to it by students of Christian Science, they were obliged to admit that there was ample authority for this in the Scriptures, as for example, Paul's statements in his epistles regarding "the mind of the Spirit;" and again, "the mind of the Lord;" and his reference to that "mind ... which was also in Christ Jesus."

In the eighth chapter of Romans we have a clear-cut distinction made between the carnal mind, or mind of the flesh, and the Mind which is Spirit, God; indeed, we very often find the words "Spirit" and "Mind" used as synonyms, as Mrs. Eddy uses them in her writings. The earnest student of Christian Science would never use the term "Mind" without the deepest reverence, as he would know that he was speaking of God.
