To know and feel confident that, living according to...
To know and feel confident that, living according to God's will, I can expect to live harmoniously, and not to be perpetually suffering physically and mentally, is what I have learned from Christian Science. I had been an ardent Sunday school worker for years before learning of this divine Science, and thought I knew my Bible; and yet I was in despair regarding my physical health. I was striving to lead a holy life, and yet did not comprehend that being holy meant also being healthy.
After two years of incessant suffering, with frequent attacks of illness (a complication of erysipelas, inflammation of the eyes, with other troubles), I had a collapse and was ordered to take a six months' rest and a sea voyage. After that I thought myself cured, but three months later I was plunged into the depths of despair by another violent attack. I knew that I could spare neither time nor money for further illness, and lay prostrate, praying to die.
Fortunately for me a friend, a Christian Scientist, called the first afternoon and kindly stayed explaining the Bible truths concerning health. At her request and merely to please my friend, but having no hope, I consented to see a Christian Science practitioner the next morning. The result of the interview was that I had a short sleep that night. After the second interview I was able to read a little for myself. The third day I took a short walk out of doors, and on the fourth day I was back at work. Since that date, over four years ago, I have enjoyed splendid health, and am now stronger than ever.
