Nearly twenty years ago, when Christian Science came...

Nearly twenty years ago, when Christian Science came to my notice, I was under a doctor's care, and had been warned to avoid all worry and excitement, to be extremely careful to eat no more meat or eggs, and to stop smoking; but after reading the chapter on Prayer in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I promptly forgot the doctor's advice. I ate and drank what was set before me, giving no thought to any possible ill effects. I recognized the truth. Here was a book that gave God all the glory. I learned that man is created in the image and likeness of God, therefore spiritual, and that everything that God creates is good, perfect, harmonious, and eternal.

All these years Christian Science has been our only physician, and it has solved our every problem and healed our every ill. There have been several seeming failures, but it has been found that the failures were due to our wrong thinking. As a matter of fact, a manifestation of disobedience and rebelliousness had sometimes to be eliminated from consciousness before true healing came. I have been healed of persistent headache, backache, rheumatism, pneumonia, grippe, abscesses, nervous collapse, financial troubles, resentment, worry, fear, and the tobacco habit. The lastnamed healing has always seemed the most wonderful to me. We came serenely through several smallpox and influenza scares. I have found Christian Science to be corrective, preventive, protective, comforting, and healing. It gives us such assurance to know that God is our loving Father-Mother, our friend and guide, and that He governs man absolutely, lovingly, every moment of the day, with all the power and intelligence there is or can be. However rough the road, heavy the cloud, or severe the problem, we can approach Him in quiet confidence, knowing that He will not fail us.

Christian Science teaches obedience to God's laws and the Golden Rule; it teaches us to use common sense in our daily walk and talk, and to mind our own business. It is a great stabilizer. I have never ceased to be grateful that Christian Science came into my life. I am grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and to Mrs. Eddy, whose purity, spiritual insight, and wonderful courage enabled her to give it to the world. I am grateful for all the activities of the Christian Science movement; for membership in The Mother Church; and for the privilege of sharing in the activities of a branch church.—J. PHILIP STREHLE, Mt. Airy, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
