The Adaptations of Love

IN the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 13): "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, 'Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters' "

"Adaptation" means adjustment to situation, environment, or the like; hence, impartial and universal adaptation is adjustment to each and every situation or circumstance confronting each and every one. Burdens of fear, doubt, and error fall away before the realization that divine Love adapts itself to meet every human need.

In Christian Science we learn that divine Love is infinite. It is therefore always active and ever ready to save and heal. Just as the sunlight shining on a building will enter wherever an opportunity is afforded, adapting itself to any opening, of whatever size or shape, so in like manner Love is present to enter every human life, to manifest itself through any and every available channel. To give Love the opportunity to act is all that is required of mortals in order that they may be blessed. This opportunity is afforded through true prayer, which is pure desire to know and do God's will, coupled with the acknowledgment of the spiritual fact that God, good, is All, and a corresponding recognition of the unreality and nothingness of evil.
